COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Team USA will be looking to win back-to-back gold medals later this week in Utica, New York, for the 2024 IIHF Women’s World Championships.
Team USA downed Canada for top honors last year in 2023 and the Americans are also coming fresh off of a gold-medal finish at the 2024 U18 Women’s Worlds as well. There are 18 players that will be returning to the roster from the team that won gold in 2023, plus a few new faces to round out the squad.
In addition to the returners to the roster, forwards Kendall Coyne Schofield and Grace Zumwinkle are returning to the Women’s Worlds in 2024. Coyne Schofield was on maternity leave last year in 2023 while Zumwinkle was left off the roster for the most recent event after competing for Team USA the year prior in 2022. Forwards Joy Dunne, Kirsten Simms and Laila Edwards along with defender Sydney Morrow and goaltender Gwyneth Philips are all set to make their Women’s Worlds debut in April with Team USA.
“The team we’ve selected brings pedigree and excitement to the ice,” said head coach John Wroblewski in a press release from USA Hockey. “We’re confident in this group and are excited to compete for gold on home soil.”
Team USA will start preliminary round play on Wednesday, April 3, against Switzerland at 6 p.m. CT at the Adirondack Bank Center. The Americans will also see Czechia, Finland and Canada in the group stage prior to the final rounds. Quarterfinals will be held on April 11,…
