The USA Today Sports coaches preseason top 25 poll was released Wednesday and Indiana is No. 18.
That’s one spot lower than the Hoosiers are ranked in the preseason Associated Press top 25 poll released October 14.
Three other Big Ten programs are ranked in the preseason poll: Purdue (No. 13), UCLA (No. 22) and Illinois (No. 24).
Rutgers, Michigan State, Oregon, Ohio State, Maryland and Wisconsin all received votes.
According to USA Today, the poll is “conducted weekly throughout the regular season using a panel of head coaches at Division I schools. The panel is chosen in consultation with the National Association of Basketball Coaches. The voters represent each of the 32 Division I conferences that receive an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. Each coach submits a Top 25 with a first-place vote worth 25 points, second place 24, and so on down to one point for 25th.”
The voter representing the Big Ten is Purdue’s Matt Painter.
Indiana plays its first exhibition on Sunday, October 27 at Tennessee. The Hoosiers open the regular season on Wednesday, November 6 at Assembly Hall against SIU-Edwardsville.
