The US auto union United Auto Workers (UAW) has filed separate complaints with the National Labor Relations Board against the Republican candidate for the White House Donald Trump and the CEO of Tesla Elon Musk for “attempts to intimidate” striking workers.
During the conversation broadcast live yesterday on the social platform X, the two discussed a potential role for Musk in the Trump administration in the event of re-election. “You’re a great head cutter,” Trump said in particular during the interview, demonstrating appreciation for Musk’s well-known anti-union positions, which he simply replied with a laugh.
The Uaw, which has expressed support for Democratic candidate Kamala Harris in next November’s elections, contested the exchange between Trump and Musk, saying that the two attempted to interfere with workers’ right to strike by suggesting their dismissal. Under US federal law, employees cannot be fired for exercising the right to strike, and threatening such action is illegal under the National Labor Relations Act, the union said in a statement.
“Both Trump and Musk want the working class to sit down and shut up, and they openly laugh about it.
