Good afternoon and welcome to our live blog coverage of the cricket match between England vs Sri Lanka. The two sides will play a T20 international starting at 2.30pm this sunny Saturday afternoon and the match takes place in Southampton.
It is a three-match series and England have won the first two, so England will continue to use this opportunity to get some game time into the fringe members of their selection pool; for the Sri Lankans it is a chance to test themselves against a side who are considerably higher up the T20 pecking order. Indeed, England are ranked number one in the format and are in the enviable position of being able to call up a deep roster of players without diluting the quality too much. The fans might reasonably ask if the dilution of the entertainment experience is an issue: in all formats, some of England’s brightest stars are frequently rested but the ticket prices and the Sky subs don’t get reduced accordingly. On the other hand, it’s always nice to see young talent come in and get a crack. Anyway, we will be finding out which players Eoin Morgan and company have named for this match soon enough.
