The Pakistan men’s cricket team will kickstart their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign on June 6 against the USA, who are also the co-hosts of the marquee cricket event along with the West Indies.
Pakistan will meet the USA in their opening group stage match at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas before meeting arch-rival India in the much-anticipated clash in New York on June 9. Canada and Ireland are the other two teams in Group A.
Two top teams from Group A will proceed to the Super 8, where they will be joined by two teams topping the other three groups, each comprising five teams.
In the Super 8, the eight teams will be further divided into two groups for the Super 8 stage. The top two from each group make the semi-finals.
The semi-finals are scheduled on June 27 at Tarouba and Providence, respectively. The T20 World Cup 2024 final will be held in Bridgetown on June 29.
Ace batter Babar Azam, who was also at the helm during their run till the final in the previous edition in 2022, will captain the Pakistani cricket team in the Americas.
The Pakistan cricket team has retained eight of their players from the last T20 World Cup. Left-arm pacer Mohammad Amir, meanwhile, made his way back into the T20 World Cup squad after eight years.
Pakistan won the T20 World Cup 2009 held in England after finishing runners-up to India in the inaugural edition in 2007. They have made three semi-finals and one final since but have failed to land a second trophy.
