Virginia-born Dettoni started out at Californian youth outfit San Diego Surf, before moving to Germany at the age of 10. After roughly two years in the youth ranks of 1860 Munich, the American joined Bayern, where he has worked his way up the ladder from the U13s team, via the U16s and 17s, to the U19s.
Dettoni had made eight appearances in the U19s Bundesliga, as well as a further two in the UEFA Youth League, prior to his call-up to the US U19s’ January 2023 training camp in Miami, Florida. Like all his teammates on the roster, he is age-eligible for the 2023 FIFA U20 World Cup in Indonesia. The 6’3″ right-footed defender, who is of Italian descent, has a contract with Bayern through to summer 2024.
