Another stunning mistake has taken American skiing star Mikaela Shiffrin out of contention for a medal in her second consecutive event at the 2022 Beijing Olympics.

Shiffrin, who wiped out in the women’s giant slalom on Monday, was one of the favorites in the slalom — an event where she claimed the gold eight years ago in Sochi. But she skied out after the fifth gate in her opening run and was eliminated.
Team USA did add its fifth silver medal of the games when freeskier Colby Stevenson soared onto the podium in the men’s big air competition.
Meanwhile, Shaun White and Chloe Kim advanced to the finals of the men’s and women’s halfpipe competitions. White, a three-time gold medalist in the event, is competing in his final Olympics.
