ZUG, Switzerland — Team USA will play for gold at the 2024 IIHF U18 Women’s World Championship after posting a 4-2 semifinal victory over Finland on Saturday at Bossard Arena.
“It’s really nice to get the win,” said U.S. head coach Liz Keady Norton in a press release from USA Hockey. “I was really proud of our effort. I thought the players really gave what we asked them for.”
Team USA finished in third place at last year’s tournament — the worst finish for the Americans in tournament history. The U.S. will look to win its first gold medal since 2020 in the final against upset-minded Czechia, which
4-2 earlier Saturday, on Sunday at 12 p.m. CT. Finland will face Canada for bronze at 8 a.m. on Sunday. The gold-medal game will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
The U.S. scored on a fortunate opportunity less than five minutes into the game. Forward Jordyn Petrie shot the puck wide of the Finnish net and Josie St. Martin picked up the rebound off of the back wall and snuck it past goalie Kerttu Kuja-Halkola while she was looking the other way.
