PLYMOUTH, Mich. – Michigan State goalie Trey Augustine, along with Boston College forwards Ryan Leonard and Will Smith, fell short of winning a NCAA title last season with their respective teams. But that trio will have a chance to end their spring with a gold medal.
On Sunday, Augustine, Leonard and Smith were among nine players added to the
for the upcoming IIHF Men’s Hockey World Championship, which begins on May 10 in Czechia. They are the three current collegians on a roster dominated by NHL players – several of whom are college hockey alumni.
Also added to the roster, which will be coached by Minnesota Wild bench boss John Hynes, are forwards Mikey Eyssimont (Tampa Bay Lightning / St. Cloud State) and Brock Nelson (New York Islanders / North Dakota), and defensemen Matthew Kessel (St. Louis Blues/ UMass), Michael Kesselring (Utah NHL/Northeastern) and Jeff Petry (Detroit Red Wings/ Michigan State)
