After the conclusion of the second day of competition at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Minnesota, Frederick Richard, Brody Malone, Paul Juda, Asher Hong and Stephen Nedoroscik were named to represent the U.S. men at the Paris Olympic Games next month. Shane Wiskus and Khoi Young were chosen as the traveling alternates.
Frederick Richard made the Olympic team outright by posting the highest two-day total 170.50 and placing in the top three on three of the individual events (floor, p-bars and high bar).
The rest of the team was picked by the USA Gymnastics selection committee considering the performances at the Olympic Trials but also, various factors such as a point system, the highest possible team total score, individual medal potential, performances at last month’s U.S. championships, international experience and such.
It will be the first Olympic Games for the 20-year-old Richard, who was bronze medalist in the all-around at last year’s world championships. “I am 20-year-old, and the world is watching, and I am going to give them something to be entertained by”, Richard said about the participation at his first Olympics.
Brody Malone will be competing at his second Olympic Games, after being a member of the Tokyo Olympic team where he placed 10th in the all-around and fifth with the team. Malone totaled 170.30 in the two-day competition just .20 behind Richard. Malone had a remarkable comeback this year, winning his third U.S. championships all-around title four weeks…
