COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Three members of the University of Michigan field hockey program are set to represent the United States in international competition throughout the month of January.
Junior Abby Tamer, who redshirted the 2023 season to train with USA, will compete with the U.S. Senior Women’s National Team at the FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifier scheduled for Jan. 13-21 in Ranchi, India.
Team USA will compete in Pool B with host India, New Zealand and Italy, while Germany, Japan, Chile and the Czech Republic represent Pool A.
The Red, White and Blue open pool play against India at 9 a.m. EST on Saturday (Jan. 13), face Italy at 6:30 a.m. EST on Sunday (Jan. 14) and New Zealand at 6:30 a.m. next Tuesday, Jan. 16. The top-two teams from each pool advance to the semifinals on Thursday, Jan. 18, while the medal and classification matches are scheduled for Friday, Jan. 19.
There are two women’s Olympic Qualifier tournaments with predetermined fields. Teams that finish in the top three of each tournament will earn qualification to the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
On the women’s side, Netherlands, Australia, Argentina, South Africa and China have already qualified for the Paris Olympic by winning their respective continental qualifiers. The other women’s qualifier takes place from Jan. 13-21 in Valencia, Spain, and includes Belgium, Great Britain, Spain, Korea, Ireland, Canada, Malaysia and Ukraine.
