The global market for gluten-free products has seen exponential growth over the last few years, driven by increased health awareness and dietary trends. Uganda, through its Banana Industrial Research & Development Centre (BIRDC), the successor entity of the Presidential Initiative on Banana Industrial Development (PIBID) is at the forefront of tapping into this lucrative market. On that note, the Rev. Prof. Florence Muranga, the secretary general of the Presidential Advisory Committee on Exports and Industrial Development (PACEID), who is also the director general PIBID/BIRDC, recently attended the Atlanta Diaspora Summit and the Chicago Global Women in Finance Leading Summit as a special guest speaker to pave the way for the successful entry of gluten-free banana flour from Uganda into the vast US market. Among the key organisers was Denise Ochigbo, Founder and President of the Career Mompreur and Dr Olivieur Kamanzi, Uganda’s trade representative in the USA and chairperson of the African Global Chamber of Commerce. During her presentation, Muranga highlighted Uganda’s progress in women’s financial inclusion, shared success stories of women-led finance initiatives and emphasised the importance of mentorship and leadership development. During Muranga received a Leadership Excellence Award and was subsequently invited to serve as a special Ambassador for the Global Women in Finance leading Summit.
