Summer Concert Series is back in University Heights: It seemed as if there was no summer in 2020, but efforts are being made all over to make sure that there will be a summer of 2021.
In University Heights, for example, the schedule is now being promoted for the city’s free Summer Concert Series at Walter Stinson Park. “We’re going to avenge the lost summer of 2020 with our greatest and most eclectic lineup in city history,” said Mayor Michael Dylan Brennan, in a release announcing this year’s concerts.
It all starts July 1 with the University Heights Symphonic Band performing before a showing of the movie “Raiders of the Lost Ark.” I know I just stated above that the concerts are to be held at Stinson Park, but that doesn’t include this one, which will be held in the quad at John Carroll University. The band, which recently celebrated its 50th anniversary, will perform patriotic numbers, as well as movie soundtrack selections.
This Thursday night show sounds like a wonderful way to start off the holiday weekend.
The schedule continues with a performance by local singer/songwriter Diana Chittester July 8 (this concert and all after will be held at Stinson Park); up and coming local rapper Aaron Malik, July 15; the soulful rhythms of Carlos Jones and the PLUS Band, July 22; Old Skool, performing ’80s and ’90s hip-hop, R&B, dance, pop, rock, funk and even some disco, on July 29; Boaterhead, a six-piece band celebrating the pop sounds of the late ’70s and early…
