Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic High School varsity baseball players Mitchell Swineford and Owen Dombrosky raised more than $4,200 to refurbish the deteriorated centerfield flagpole at Veterans Memorial (Vets) Field, Altoona.
The yearlong project wrapped up in April 2022.
Thanks to the support of Central Blair Rec Commission and the generosity of family, friends and local veterans organizations and businesses, the boys exceeded their original goal of $3,000.
With the additional donations, welcome signs were purchased.
Special thanks was given to Beauchamp Plumbing and Heating , which donated labor and materials to update the press box and restrooms with new siding and windows, Flag Station U.S.A , which sandblasted and restored the 55-foot solid steel flagpole and Image Signs, which designed and installed patriotic Welcome signs that pay honor to military veterans who have bravely served our country.
