After first entering the U.S. market in the 50s, Ferguson is now officially headquartered back in America.
The distributor of industrial product categories ranging from plumbing, HVAC, appliances and lighting to PVF, water and wastewater solutions shared Aug. 1 that the transition is now final, with the company’s headquarters now in Newport News, VA after its corporate reorganization.
Ferguson’s inception began in 1953 out of entrepreneurs Charles Ferguson, Ralph Lenz and Johnny Smither, who began the company in Newport News and grew the firm to over $80 million in annual sales before it was acquired by U.K.-based Wolseley plc in 1982. Ferguson continued to grow over the years and eventually represented the majority of Wolseley’s total sales, which led Wolseley to change its name to Ferguson plc in 2017. In 2021, Ferguson plc completed the sale of its last operating business in Europe to wholly focus on serving customer in North America. That same year, Ferguson plc began trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol FERG.
Earlier this year, Ferguson established a new corporate structure to domicile its ultimate parent company — Ferguson Enterprises Inc. — in the U.S. to better align its headquarters and governance with its operations and leadership. That transition is now final.
