Rev. Charles Gilbert Komschlies, Col. (Ret.), USA, 89, of Sturgeon Bay, was called Home to be with the Lord, Friday evening, December 17, 2021 at Cardinal Ridge CBRF.
He was born February 17, 1932 in Milwaukee, WI, the son of Gilbert “Gil” Charles Komschlies and Ruth Rachel (Rogers) Komschlies. Charles attended Nathan Hale High School in West Allis and graduated with the class of 1949. With his heart set on becoming a pastor, he earned his bachelor’s degree with a triple major in Bible, classical languages (Latin and Greek), and English (speech) with a minor in history from Luther College in Decorah, IA in 1953. He then immediately entered Luther Theological Seminary in St. Paul, MN until earning his Bachelors of Theology in 1957 (converted retroactively to Masters of Divinity in 1995). While there, he enlisted with the United States Army Reserves on April 11, 1955 to eventually serve as a chaplain. Shortly thereafter, Charles was united in marriage to Ada “Corrine” Loboda on June 18, 1955. Charles continued his educational endeavors through graduate coursework at Luther Theological Seminary between 1958 and 1965 for New Testament theology; Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD from 1962 to 1964 to study elementary education; and finally at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, MN from 1972 to 1977 to finish his master’s degree and nearly complete his doctorate degree.
