The United States, US Travel Ban from India will come into effect from May 4, 2021, till further notice amid the rise in COVID 19 cases in the country. However, United States Administration has made an exemption for a category of Indian students, academicians and Journalists. The academic session is going to begin on August 1, 2021.
The announcement from White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki on US Travel Ban says, “On the order of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the administration will restrict travel from India starting immediately. The policy will be implemented in view of extraordinarily high COVID-19 caseloads and multiple variants circulating in India”. However, specific categories of students, academics, journalists and individuals have been exempted from the India travel ban announced by President Joe Biden.

US Travel Ban: Points on exemption category
- Students with valid F 1 and M 1 visas intending to begin an academic session from August 1, 2021, or later may not need to contact an embassy to seek an individual exemption.
