The first live results show of this “America’s Got Talent” season saw a fan favorite learn his fate and a shocking result that upset judge Simon Cowell.
During Wednesday’s show, the 11 contestants who performed last night were whittled down to five, then three and then two, as host Terry Crews gradually announced the results of America’s overnight vote. The top two earned a spot in the “AGT” finale for a chance at the $1 million prize and a headlining show in Las Vegas, while the rest were eliminated.
Judges Heidi Klum, Sofía Vergara, Howie Mandel and Cowell looked on, often in shock, but couldn’t do anything about the results, which were entirely up to America.
Fans also got to witness another “AGT” shocker: Cowell admitting he was wrong. The notoriously hard-to-please judge opened the show with an apology to Colombian dance duo Stefanny and Yeremy for hitting the X during their performance the night prior. Vergara had called him “loco” for the harsh feedback.
“I buzzed the two dancers, and I watched it back, and I am loco so I apologize,” he admitted.
