This year, in celebration of Earth Week from April 18-24, the city of Hendersonville and its Environmental Sustainability Board are promoting earth-friendly activities and events around the community.
Environmental Awareness Month
Mayor Barbara Volk has proclaimed April 2021 as Environmental Awareness Month in the city of Hendersonville. The proclamation emphasizes the priority the city places on environmental sustainability programs and encourages the public to participate and make Hendersonville a better place to live.
Pollinators
The city of Hendersonville celebrates Earth Day every day by being certified as a Bee City USA affiliate. In its joint effort to continue to fulfill the city’s commitments to create healthy habitats for pollinators, the Tree Board takes the lead on planting projects and maintaining a recommended species list while the Environmental Sustainability Board heads up educational events to raise awareness of the importance of pollinators.
Both boards work in partnership with scores of local organizations and businesses to achieve Bee City USA program objectives.
Recommended species list, ongoing
You can help pollinators too! When looking for trees, shrubs, vines, grasses, flowers and landscaping, choose ones that support bees, butterflies and other pollinators. Find recommended species at www.hendersonvillenc.gov/tree-species-list.
