Sport and fitness students at Ayrshire College have raised over £1,500 for the Kris Boyd Charity through their annual #PassingPositivity campaign.
Students from HNC Fitness Health and Exercise, HND Fitness Health and Exercise, and HND Coaching and Developing Sport courses held a number of events for their mental health awareness-raising campaign, which helped raise £1,593 for charity.
The main event was a virtual team challenge of reaching 3,500 miles, through walking, running or cycling, which is the distance between Scotland’s Kilmarnock and Virginia, USA’s Kilmarnock.
There was also a virtual sports quiz, a ‘Fun Fitness Friday’ session of F45, Core X Fit and stretching classes, a scavenger hunt, and a Zumba session for everyone to enjoy.
Five students also set themselves the massive target of completing 100km of exercise each from mid-April to mid-May.
Mairi Mackenzie, HND Coaching and Developing Sport Group A student, said: “Our message throughout the events was ‘It’s okay NOT to be okay!’. By creating a safe environment through exercise and sport, it has helped people to get out the house daily, clear their heads and take their minds off things that may be affecting them.”
David Dougan, Sport and Fitness lecturer at Ayrshire College, said of the groups’ efforts: “All the student events were such a massive success. The Passing Positivity message was spread to hundreds of students and staff throughout the College, as well as the wider community….
