Santa Monica is home to an eclectic artistic community, and certain areas within the city have always had an artsy feel. So when Luna Chen was looking for a space to offer personalized, hands-on crafting experiences, she knew the area near the 3rd Street Promenade would be the perfect.
Chen — the founder, owner, and general manager of Lumee DIY — has turned her passion for decoden art and innovative DIY projects into a must-visit destination for those who want to create.
Decoden art, a popular activity in Asian pop culture, involves decorating objects with artistic designs. For many, it’s just a fun hobby, but it has been a longtime passion for Chen.
“When I found out that there were very limited places for people to experience this in the U.S., I decided to create one, which turned into Lumee DIY,” Chen said.
Chen’s vision for Lumee DIY was to create a space where people could disconnect and immerse themselves in creativity.
“My goal is to provide people with a space to enjoy in-person entertainment again and take a break from screens and electronics,” she said.
It’s also a place where people with similar artistic interests can connect. Chen hopes this will strengthen the local creative community.
