Gas prices in Wisconsin and the Milwaukee metro area have jumped past $4 a gallon on average.
The latest data from the Daily Fuel Gauge report compiled by travel organization AAA on Wednesday showed the average price for regular gas in Wisconsin was $4.06 a gallon.
Prices have risen almost 50 cents a gallon in Wisconsin during the past month.
The price is more than $1 a gallon higher than it was this time last year in Wisconsin.

- Milwaukee-Waukesha: $4.10
- Wausau: $4.10
- Janesville-Beloit: $4.10
- Kenosha: $4.07
- Fond du Lac: $4.05
- Green Bay: $4.05
- Oshkosh: $4.04
- Racine: $4.04
- Sheboygan: $4.03
- Appleton: $4.02
- Eau Claire: $3.94
- Pierce-St. Croix County: $3.89
- Superior: $3.85
- LaCrosse: $3.79
In metro Milwaukee, average prices are even higher in Ozaukee County at an average of $4.18 a gallon. Washington County was at $4.11 a gallon on average.
The average price for a gallon of diesel fuel in Wisconsin was $4.68. The national average for diesel fuel was $4.87 a gallon.
To the south, the average price in the Chicago metro area was $4.61, according to AAA. In the city of Chicago, the average price was $4.88.
The national average on Wednesday was $3.83. California had the highest prices in the nation at $6.43 a gallon on average.
After weeks of steady declines, the higher gas prices are again poised to add to inflation pressure already being felt across Wisconsin and the U.S.
