A family killed in a light plane crash off the US coast was set to move home to Australia this summer – now the youngest family member is making the trip alone.
The surviving daughter of the Kath family is on her way home to Queensland where she will be looked after by her grandparents, a family friend has written in a GoFundMe.

Friends of the family set up the GoFundMe to help provide support for the surviving daughter.
The 10-year-old’s parents, Christian and Misty Kath, and her older sister, Lily, were killed in a plane crash in the Gulf of Mexico on Saturday.
The family – who had been living in the US – were due to come back to Australia this summer and the two girls were set to start school in Brisbane next year, according to the GoFundMe, verified by 7NEWS.
Misty’s parents had already moved from the Gold Coast to Brisbane to be close to the family.
The couple will now become full-time carers for their granddaughter.
“Now (they) will be both parents and grandparents to their only surviving 10-year old granddaughter in the next couple of days,” a friend wrote online.
Search called off
The search for Christian Kath, 42, has been called off, the Venice, Florida Municipal Government has confirmed.
