Members of the LGBTQ community face multiple challenges as they understand their sexuality, but as they grow older, the challenges can continue into parenthood.
Being a parent can be difficult, but those within the LGBTQ community can face additional challenges within their families and beyond while raising their children. In addition, the parents of children who identify as LGBTQ can have their own challenges raising children in a society that can be unforgiving at times.

Jessica Lynn Naylor, a mother of three, identifies as pansexual.
Naylor describes being pansexual as being attracted to a person for their character regardless of their gender identity. She said she has dated men, women, transgender people, nonbinary people and asexual people.
“It’s more of loving a person for who they are, as they identify, than who they are as they are born to be,” she said.

Naylor had a positive experience finding her sexuality growing up with an openly bisexual mom.
A bisexual is a person who is emotionally or sexually attracted to more than one gender, according to a USA Today article.
