The 2024 Paris Olympics continue Saturday with stars looking to medal in gymnastics, swimming and track and field. Simone Biles will compete in the women’s vault final, aiming for her third gold medal in Paris. Stephen Nedoroscik, team USA’s pommel horse specialist, will compete in the pommel horse final. Katie Ledecky is going for a record ninth gold medal in the women’s 800-meter freestyle. And sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson has her sights set on gold in the women’s 100-meter final.
Friday’s Olympic action saw swimmer Regan Smith take silver in the women’s 200-meter backstroke final, while distance runner Grant Fisher took bronze in the men’s 10,000-meter final — the first American to medal in the event since 1964. Team USA also earned bronze medals in mixed team archery and men’s skiff sailing, as well as silver medals in equestrian team jumping and shooting.
The United States continues to lead the Paris Olympics with 43 medals, nine of them being gold. They may have more hardware than any other country through the first week of competition, but there’s still a long way to go.
The Olympics run until Aug. 11, and on this page, CBS Sports will be tracking the entire event from the perspective of the United States. You will find everything you need to know about Team USA’s performances from gold-medal victories and record-breaking efforts to fun moments and (unfortunately some) crushing defeats.
