The participation of Novak Djokovic at the Italian Open of Rome is a doubt that does not dissolve. The Serbian said in an interview with the BBC that he has no intention of getting vaccinated and that, for this reason, he is ready to sacrifice important tournaments such as that Roland Garros and (or) Wimbledon.
Sacrifices that no longer depend on Djokovic, but on the decision of countries to open their doors, and their tournaments, to players who have not been vaccinated against Covid-19. Novak Djokovic’s interview immediately sparked the reaction of many, including Italian personalities, who commented on the Serbian’s possibility of being able to participate in Rome.
Comments from former Italian tennis players were also accompanied by statements from members of the Italian government. The last in order to have said about him on the number one in the world was Giovanni Malagò. The chairman of Coni, interviewed by Agorà, an Italian tv broadcast on Rai3, commented on the possible and probable participation of Djokovic in Rome.
“If it is right for Djokovic to participate in the International Tennis Championships in Rome? Absolutely not. Because admitted and not granted that one takes a shower in a camper, that he eats and sleeps alone and in situations of luck, it is the message that is very wrong,” commented Malagò, as reported by the Open newspaper.
