After being knocked out of Copa America in the group stage of the tournament, the United States Soccer Federation has moved on from coach Gregg Berhalter, but the next coach isn’t likely to be Jurgen Klopp. The former Liverpool boss has turned down interest in the job after being approached last week, according to The Athletic.
This creates an opportunity for U.S. Soccer technical director Matt Crocker to determine what the future holds for the United States men’s national team ahead of the 2026 World Cup without the perceived top candidate in Klopp.
After previously bringing in one of the best coaches in the world, Emma Hayes, to lead the women’s squad, U.S. Soccer has shown that the best managers can be attracted to America. Still, there are questions about whether the men’s job is as attractive of a role even with a World Cup on home soil in 2026.
