Chiefs Recognize American Indian Heritage Month
The Chiefs will celebrate American Indian Heritage Month in a variety of ways this Monday at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. The First Pass will be thrown by Chairman Darwin Kaskaske of The Kickapoo Tribe of Oklahoma and his wife, Mary Thorpe (granddaughter of Jim Thorpe, the first Native American to win a gold medal for the United States, Pro Football Hall of Famer and the first President of the American Professional Football Association, which later became the NFL), of The Absentee Shawnee Tribe. George Levi and the Singers of The Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma will perform the blessing of the drum and honor song. During pregame, the Blessing of the Four Directions will be conducted by Chief Alan Fletcher of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma.
