GOTHENBURG, Sweden — In addition to the sparkling white suit he wore to the 2022 NHL Draft, Wisconsin native Isaac Howard has worn maroon (at Minnesota Duluth, as a freshman) and green (at Michigan State this season) during his college career. But you could make a strong argument that he looks best in red, white and blue, with a shiny gold accent piece.
Howard’s pair of goals in the second period on Friday helped power Team USA to a 6-2 win over host Sweden in the goal medal game of the 2024 World Junior Championship. Howard led all scorers in the tournament with seven goals.
Leading 3-2 heading into the third period, the Americans got goals from
Ryan Leonard and Rutger McGroarty, winning the world title for the sixth time in the 48-year history of the World Junior tournament.
American goaltender Trey Augustine, who is Howard’s Michigan State teammate, finished with 24 saves in the win.
