The U.S. Olympic roster has been selected, and now it’s time to get the team ready for game one against Zambia on July 25.
The U.S. Women’s National Team begins preparations for the Olympics with a friendly match against Mexico on Saturday, July 13 at Red Bull Arena in suburban New York City. It is the first of two tune-ups for Emma Hayes’ team before they head to France for the start of the Olympics.
Hayes had a good look at her team in a pair of friendly wins in June after joining the USWNT full time, and the team got goals from all over the field, which is a good sign considering that they’re still looking for a consistent No. 9. Sophia Smith, Mallory Swanson, and Crystal Dunn all scored last month, as did midfielder and defender Tierna Davidson.
Now, they’ll go up against a Mexico side that made the semifinals of the CONCACAF Women’s Gold Cup earlier this year and in fact beat the USWNT in that competition.
