BATON ROUGE, La. – The second-ranked Florida State beach volleyball team (8-0) remained undefeated on the season after two wins Saturday at the LSU Tiger Beach Challenge, including a 4-1 win over No. 1 LSU.
The Seminoles started the day with a 5-0 win over Houston Baptist. Florida State won in straight sets on four of the five courts.
Kate Privett and Jenna Johnson got the afternoon started with a 21-10, 21-10 win on court five. They were followed up by Payton Caffrey and Liz Waters-Leiga on court four who gave the Seminoles a 2-0 lead with a 21-16, 21-17 win. Sara Putt and Maddie Anderson clinched the match on court three with a 21-12, 21-11 win.
With the match in hand, Alaina Chacon and Molly McBain extended the lead to 4-0 with a 24-22, 21-10 win on court one. Torrey Van Winden and Keara Rutz completed the sweep with a 19-21, 21-14, 15-11 win on court two.
Florida State capped off the day with a 4-1 win over No. 1 LSU. The Garnet and Gold got out to an early 2-0 lead with wins on courts four and five during the first wave of matches.
Caffrey and Waters-Leiga earned the point for the Noles on court four with a 21-19, 21-17 win. Privett and Johnson capped of the first wave with a 21-15, 21-18 win on court five.
