Clayton Kershaw has been the face of the Dodgers for as long as anyone can remember. His longevity has been incredible to watch, despite injuries taking their toll over the last few years.
Even this season, when he has been healthy, he has been one of the best pitchers in the game. And as the season starts to wind down, Kershaw knows that he is going to be counted on massively come playoff time for this team.
With the way that the LA starting rotation has shaken out, Kershaw is likely going to be one of the only veteran pitchers. He just wants to make his mark and make sure that he is good enough to provide what the Dodgers need from him.
“After the way I pitched last game,” Kershaw told The Athletic. “I look at it as an open tryout. I really do. It makes the games more meaningful going down the stretch. Looking forward to the challenge. I think for myself personally, I need it to prove to myself that I’m still good enough.”
His last start against the Miami Marlins left much to wonder about, so he is looking to still show his worth to the Dodgers. He wants to be one of the guys that they can trust in the biggest games.
Other than him, the only other veteran pitcher that LA will use in the postseason starting rotation is Lance Lynn. The others are all rookies or young guys who still need to prove themselves when it matters most.
