If you think cybersecurity and AI are topics that arenât of much relevance to your small business, Jim Ashby assures you are quite wrong.
Ashby, executive director of Cyber Academy for Cyberdome USA, was presenter at the first Destination Georgetown Galaxy 5 Small Business Series. The event was held Feb. 7 at The Spot, an event space in Copperfield Commons on the east side of Georgetown.
Rural areas are the most vulnerable when it comes to cybersecurity threats, said Ashby. The Town of Georgetown worked with Cyberdome over the past year to tighten its security processes and practices.
The main focus, said Ashby, is to build cyber resilience. âItâs how to design policies and procedures and systems so if and when you take a sucker punch, how quickly can you get back up and in business,â he explained.
Cybersecurity is never foolproof. Ashby said as cyber criminals constantly evolve and hone their skills, companies must continually enhance their security measures and processes.
âEvery employee can open the door or window to an attacker just by carelessness or falling for things â everyone does,â said Ashby, citing a recent example of a phishing email he received that appeared to be from an employee. âYou want to decrease the number of times you fall for it.â
