The heritage month honors “the history and achievements of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders,” according to the White House’s proclamation this year.
Advancing “inclusion, belonging and acceptance” — as President Joe Biden’s proclamation reads — for these communities that encompass a wide array of cultures is especially significant in light of rising rates of anti-Asian harassment and violence across the country, including several reported incidents in metro Phoenix, during the pandemic.
